Alcohol & Drug Management
A robust and comprehensive Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Policy is an integral component in maintaining workplace safety in safety-sensitive industries and workplace environments.
Implementation of a well-structured AOD screening and testing program is an essential component of an effective AOD policy. A designated Medical Review Officer (MRO) can provide essential review of AOD policy implementation and should be engaged during the verification of AOD testing result outcome where a ‘non-negative’ result is returned, or in the event concerns are raised during AOD testing.
We provide various AOD and MRO services to workplaces across a wide range of industries. AOD testing services can be provided through referral to TDDA with clinic or on-site workplace testing options.
Our designated Medical Review Officers can provide MRO services for a variety of AOD-related concerns, advice with clearance to return to work, or regulatory applications.
Please use the referral form link to request a MRO assessment or email MRO@sabrehealth.co.nz for more information.

A Medical Review Officer (MRO) is a medical doctor specialised in the assessment, interpretation and reporting of AOD testing and policy implementation.
Independent MROs conduct medical assessments by reviewing results, interviewing donors, verifying laboratory reports, and corresponding with the donor’s treatment providers.
This permits MRO-verification of AOD results and provision of specialist advice to employers, employees, and their representatives.
MRO Reviews are indicated when:
Confirmatory AOD testing returns a “non-negative” result
If an employee declares a prescription medication which turns up in AOD testing
If employees fail to provide a sample for AOD testing or there are concerns with the testing process
Concerns are raised regarding an employees fitness for work due to AOD matters
Clearance to return to work following AOD-related concerns
